Community Groups Invited To Apply For Council Grants

Latrobe City’s 2009/10 Community Grants Program has opened for applications from groups across Latrobe City to apply for funding assistance.

By Latrobe City Council - 12th June 2009 - Back to News

Up to $5000 can be applied for by not for profit Latrobe City groups and organisations, for projects being undertaken during the 2009/10 financial year.

In announcing the community grants program for 2009/2010, Latrobe City mayor, Cr Lisa Price, said the grants provide great opportunities for numerous groups in the community to benefit.

"These council grants encourage community groups to enhance their facilities or the services they provide to the community. Whether it’s a growing sporting group seeking to expand premises or upgrade equipment, a group wishing to develop a service program or a group wanting to share an event with the community, the community grants program can help them achieve their dreams."

Cr Price said that over the last year, funding in each category had resulted in many useful, community-based projects being developed.

"There are many fine examples of community groups working hard to create infrastructure improvements, organising events, both major and minor, as well as providing valuable community development programs within our municipality.

"In the 2008/2009 financial year funding was provided for 103 Minor Capital Works projects, 31 Community Development projects, 20 Events and more than 30 Venue Hire subsidies.

"As well as receiving financial help through the community grants program, community groups are encouraged to contribute to these projects by way of providing some of their own funding, as well as contributions made ‘in kind’, such as providing labour. It is a great way for the community to work together to achieve a common goal," Cr Price added.

"An extensive campaign to promote the program is currently being carried out so that as many groups as possible can take advantage of these funding opportunities. If you belong to a community group or organisation within Latrobe, and you have a project that needs funding, then this program may be a way for you to receive help and make a start on that project," Cr Price concluded.

Application forms will be made available from council’s service centres and libraries in Moe, Morwell, Churchill and Traralgon; by telephoning 1300 367 700 or by accessing the Latrobe City webpage on www.latrobe.vic.gov.au.

The deadline for receiving applications is 5pm on Friday 17 July 2009.
