First time in Latrobe City
In 2022, for the first time in Latrobe City, the State Government will be extending its subsidy to three-year-old kindergarten. "Council is pleased to advise that a three-year-old kindergarten service will be offered at all Council preschools in 2022," Latrobe City Council Mayor, Cr Sharon Gibson said.
The service will be available for all children who turn three by 30 April 2022. This will be free of charge for those children eligible for the Kindergarten Fee Subsidy. Those children who are not eligible will have a fee per term, which is to be set.
Supporting children’s developments
Latrobe City Council Mayor, Cr Sharon Gibson said , "Research shows that play-based learning is a powerful way to support children’s development. These benefits last into the school years and beyond. The evidence also shows that two years of early learning are better than one," Cr Gibson said. At kindergarten, children learn vital skills for life, including creative thinking, social and emotional skills, and early literacy and language skills."
A quality kindergarten program will have greater impact for children who start at age three rather than four. The benefits are even more significant for children who are in vulnerable circumstances. Three-year-old kinder will be offered five hours per week. Four-year-old kinder will be offered 15 hours per week.
Enroll your kids now
Preferences will be offered for all 24 Latrobe City Preschools for both programs. On-time enrolments close on 30 June. Applications submitted after 30 June will be placed in order of receipt. All preschools will host an open day on Tuesday 11 May. Bookings are essential. Visit kindergaten to make a booking or take a virtual tour and to enrol.
