Darren Chester welsomes Buchan Recreation Reserve redevelopment with multi-million dollar funding to boost community facilities
The Buchan Recreation Reserve redevelopment is underway, with over $5 million funding for a new pavilion, change rooms, and courts, enhancing community sports and supporting disaster relief efforts.
The major redevelopment of the Buchan Recreation Reserve is starting to take shape, with a multi-million dollar community pavilion and sporting change rooms set to transform the facility. Federal Member for Gippsland Darren Chester said the project had received funding from all levels of government and was part of the master plan for the site.
Darren Chester said multi-level government funding supports the master plan, replacing unsafe change rooms and outdated netball/tennis courts
Buchan facility upgrade
Mr Chester said, "The old facilities were unfit for purpose and unsafe for athletes, particularly the changerooms and the netball/tennis courts. The master plan was developed in 2021 following community consultation, and we were able to secure funding from the Black Summer bushfire recovery process through state and federal governments."
"East Gippsland Shire is managing the project, and it's good to see local firm Cadbuild Constructions working on the steel-framed pavilion with the new netball courts already in place. There's more than $5 million going into these stages of the master plan, and the facility will serve the Buchan Football Netball Club, cricket club, pony club, and community groups for decades to come."
"Well done to the volunteer committee members for working in partnership with all levels of government to develop facilities that will serve the community for generations to come," Mr Chester said. The new facilities will also offer public toilets and be available for relief and recovery activities in future natural disasters.
