2011 Contractor Safety Recognition Forum Esso Australia Pty Ltd held its annual Contractor Safety Recognition Forum last Friday at the Crown Conference Centre in Melbourne where Apprenticeships Group Australia (AGA By AGA - 10th August 2011 - Back to News was presented with a safety performance recognition award by the Chairman of Esso Australia, John Dashwood, and accepted on behalf of AGA by East Gippsland Field Officer, Michael Taylor.
In presenting this award, Esso Australia acknowledged that the Front End Training (FET) provided by AGA prior to apprentices being placed at its Longford Gas Processing and Crude Oil Stabilisation Plant, along with regular mentoring from AGA Field Officers and Esso personnel, have instilled and maintained a safety culture within AGA apprentices.
AGA works in close collaboration with Esso Australia to help apprentices obtain their trade qualifications. During 2010, AGA had 18 apprentices working across Esso onshore sites, including the Longford Plant, working a collaborative amount of around 30,000 hours with no recordable injuries.
"This is an excellent example of safe work, recognising the potential exposure for apprentices as a group of typically less experienced personnel working within our operation," said Ron Reinten, Manager of Safety Health, Environment and Security for Esso Australia.
All apprentices that commence with AGA undertake 10-12 weeks of Front End Training (FET) at an AGA training facility. This equips our new apprentices with the appropriate skills and knowledge, in particular safety awareness that assists in their transition to the workforce.
