Latrobe City elects new Mayor

Councillor Bruce Lougheed was elected Latrobe City Mayor at a Special Council Meeting held at Churchill on Monday evening, with Councillor Darrell White elected Deputy Mayor.

By Latrobe Shire Council - 21st December 2004 - Back to News

Both Councillors will serve in their roles until November 2005.

This is the second mayoral election for Latrobe City held in 2004. Cr Darrell White was elected Mayor in March this year with Cr Lisa Price elected Deputy Mayor.

The reason for two mayoral elections in the one year reflects changes to the Local Government Act introduced by the State government that will see the alignment of mayoral terms and local government elections to a common date across the State.

The change requires that all Councils throughout the State hold elections in November, rather than March.

The next Latrobe City Council elections will be held in November 2005, with the incoming Council elected for a three year term.

From November 2008, Councils across the State will be elected for a four-year term.
