Economic Development Policy Move Supported

East Gippsland Shire Councillors have endorsed a proposal to develop a Draft Economic Development Policy that will support the formation of an Economic Development Advisory Board.

By East Gippsland Shire Council - 16th December 2004 - Back to News

As a result Council will disband the Economic Development Special Committee that was formed in June 2002 and the associated Instrument of Delegation.

Council’ Group Manager Council, John Websdale said that having adopted a Tourism Policy and an Arts and Culture Policy, Council was now in a position to consider its overarching economic development policy position.

"Officers have discussed this process with portfolio Councillors and have made a series of recommendations," he said.

"These include developing a Draft Economic Policy for Council consideration, obtaining community feedback on the draft and then adopting the policy."

Mr Websdale said that depending on the final form of the policy Council would establish an Economic Development Advisory Board that would develop the framework for a five-year economic development strategy.
