A Latrobe City Council community safety forum will raise awareness of problem gambling through the screening of a hard-hitting film, 'Ka-Ching: Pokie Nation'. The screenings will be held on Tuesday 22 November from 3pm to 5pm and again from 7pm to 9pm at Village Cinemas Morwell, 352 Princes Drive Morwell. The sessions are free, but bookings are essential.

Latrobe City Council’s mayor, Cr Kellie O’Callaghan said that the screenings would be followed by a special panel discussion.

"Representatives from The Alliance for Gambling Reform, Latrobe Community Health Gamblers Help Program, ReSpin – Gambling Awareness Speakers Bureau and Latrobe City Council will discuss the impact of problem gambling on individuals and communities.

"Carolyn Hirsh, former Victorian member of parliament, who is featured in the movie, will also be on the panel and will reveal her own, often painful, experience with gambling addiction. Listening first-hand to someone who has been through the issue and come out the other side is always revealing; but when that someone is a high- profile, the resulting discussion can be even more influential," Cr O’Callaghan said.

"We know that gambling is a significant problem in our region but how can we address the issue? We want this forum to be about working collaboratively to achieve a workable solution to a social issue that has a very real detrimental impact within our community.

"If you would like to engage in an important conversation regarding problem gambling, either for personal reasons or from a work or community perspective, then this forum is for you. Together, we can make a difference to the lives of people who are directly or indirectly impacted by gambling addiction," Cr O’Callaghan concluded.
