Danny O'Brien pushing for McLoughlins Beach Jetty construction start date to end community prolonged anticipation
Danny O'Brien, Nationals Member for Gippsland South, urges the State Government to clarify the start date for constructing McLoughlins Beach Jetty, emphasising community's long wait since funding announcement in May 2022.
The Nationals Member for Gippsland South Danny O'Brien has asked the state government to explain when construction will begin on a new McLoughlins Beach Jetty. Mr O'Brien said he was proud of the local community for its long fight for funding to rebuild the town's much-used jetty which resulted in funding announced in the May 2022 Budget.
The Nationals Member for Gippsland South, Danny O'Brien is calling for advice on when the McLoughlins Beach Jetty will be rebuilt
Delayed jetty reconstruction
Mr O'Brien said, "The current jetty is past its use-by date and falling apart and in danger of being closed. It was a fantastic campaign by the local community and user groups to ensure that funding was delivered and I was proud to be part of that campaign. However, the funding to rebuild the jetty was announced almost two years ago and we still haven't seen any action at McLoughlins Beach."
"I had previously been advised that the jetty would be closed after January this year in anticipation of work beginning but still nothing has happened. Advice on the Gippsland Ports website that construction will begin in mid-March is at odds with the reality that nothing is happening yet."
"We all want to see this important piece of local infrastructure rebuilt and I'm calling on the state government to give the community some information and certainty on when construction will begin," Mr O'Brien concluded.
