Traralgon Swimming Club Winning In And Out Of Pool Hard work and persistence has paid off in and out of the pool for the Traralgon Swimming Club with the State and Federal Governments awarding grants to help club members to achieve their goals. By Russell Northe - 23rd May 2011 - Back to News State Member for Morwell Russell Northe and Federal Member for Gippsland Darren Chester have congratulated the club on receiving a $500 grant through the State Government’s Victalent program and $3000 through the Federal Government’s Local Sporting Champions program.
Both grants will go towards providing assistance to cover the costs of travel and accommodation associated with competing at the highest level.
Traralgon Swimming Club Senior Head Coach Brian Ford said the club participated in the Australian Age Swimming Championships in Adelaide last month and in August will head to Shepparton for the Victorian Country Championships.
"It is not a cheap exercise to compete with bus hire, accommodation, meals and entry fees," Mr Ford said.
"We are very fortunate to have received grants from both the State and Federal Government which will go a long way towards easing the costs involved for our members."
Mr Northe and Mr Chester have wished the club all the best with the upcoming State championships.
"The Traralgon Swimming Club travels quite extensively throughout the year and it is fantastic to see the club receive funding to assist members to cover the cost of pursuing their sporting goals," Mr Northe said.
"The Coalition Government is committed to encouraging more people to get involved in sport and recreation and programs such as Victalent play an important role in assisting young sportspeople to realise their dreams."
Mr Chester said Traralgon Swimming Club would be one of four teams this year to receive a $3000 Local Sporting Champions grant.
"The Traralgon Swimming Club has been very successful over a number of years and I’m pleased to see the hard work of the whole club recognised through the Local Sporting Champions program," Mr Chester said.
"The program allows four teams who participate in state or national level sporting championships from Gippsland each year to apply for a $3000 grant as well as 26 individual grants of $500.
"I encourage all local athletes who are competing at a state or national level to apply for the grants and receive some financial support to assist their families and their clubs."
