Senior ShieldsOver the weekend the Latrobe Valley Tenpin Bowling Association held its Senior Shield Representative Team Trials. By Morwell Tenpins - 31st August 2004 - Back to News To be eligible you must be over 45 years of age but in tenpin bowling age is no factor, as we were able to see some high scoring on tough conditions. The women’s team was decided without even a ball being bowled as only the minimum number of nominations was received. In the men’s division former State Team member Joe Tomsinski lead from the first game and was never in danger of missing out whilst regular campaigners Wayne Mills, Paul Stanton and Greg Smith found it hard to get a rhythm going and in unfamiliar territory midfield. First time nominee John Brandon was not showing any sign of nerves and off to a great start. The second day of trials the ante was lifted with all bowlers lifting their scoring rate in the battle for the top 6 positions. It was a real tight tussle that came down to the last game with 2 positions available and four bowlers vying for them. After 14 games only 44 pins separated these 4 bowlers. The successful bowlers were
Women’s Team Anne Hogg (C) Pat Bennett Lyn Bourke Anne Brandon Isabella Gaunt & Maureen Woszczeiko
Men’s Team Greg Smith (C) Joe Tomasinski Wayne Mills Brad Smith Eric Harrison & Roy Arnold
The two teams will travel to Wodonga in November to compete against 11 other country centres from Victoria. Both Teams are hopeful of emulating both the Junior Country Cup and Country Cup teams in bringing home the trophies, which would cap off a successful year for the Latrobe Valley representative teams in clean sweeping all 3 major tournaments.
