Launch Of Eagerly Awaited Networking Group For Young Adults

Friday 24 September will see the official launch of a far-reaching Wellington Shire Council-supported initiative aimed at promoting networking and social opportunities for local young adults aged 18–35 years.

By Wellington Shire Council - 20th September 2004 - Back to News

Generate is being established by young adults themselves and will meet monthly for social activities, with its underlining objectives being to:

  • promote Wellington as a socially diverse and active community for young adults;
  • foster social and business networks within the community;
  • provide a vibrant social network for young professionals relocating to the region.

The council believes this initiative will be an invaluable asset in an ongoing drive to encourage young people to continue living in the shire and so help stem the present exodus. It will also greatly assist council consultation on local issues, representing a very useful pool of residents in this age group from which to receive community feedback.

Said Wellington’s Mayor Jeff Amos: "We applaud the shire’s young adults for establishing this much-needed new network, which offers great benefits to them and the shire as a whole.

"Retaining residents in the 18-35 age bracket is vital to ensuring the future economic and social wellbeing of Wellington, as we experience the affects of a rapidly ageing population like elsewhere across Australia.

"This is a great initiative and we wish it every success for the future."
