Latrobe City’s arts director, Julie Adams, said that the exhibition Beyond the Classroom gave the students a chance to present their ideas and display their developing skills to the local audience.
"The Latrobe Performing Arts Education Program is proud to once again give students the opportunity to celebrate the considerable achievements they have made in their VCE art and design work.
"Students from Lavalla and Traralgon Colleges studying drama, design and technology, studio art, visual communications, and theatre studies have their work on display, giving them an insight into the preparation and excitement that a public exhibition can generate," Ms Adams said.
"Beyond the Classroom will also showcase three performances from the 2011 drama and theatre studies solo exams. This program acknowledges both the efforts and outcomes achieved by these students, and is designed to provide support, encouragement and networking opportunities in the years beyond secondary school.
"To provide further opportunities for the development of young people within the arts, Years Beyond the Classroom will showcase work completed since finishing VCE from one of the participants from the first Beyond the Classroom program in 2010.
"Andrew Roberts, who is currently studying at Monash University Caulfield campus in the Bachelor Of Design (Visual Communication), has taken the opportunity to show a series of works, Solitary, which he completed as part of his photography studies during 2011.
"It is a great pleasure to know that Latrobe Performing Arts is continuing to support these students who have entered the tertiary phase of their arts education and who are potentially pursuing a career in this field.
These exhibitions speak volumes about the depth of talent in our region and we hope that they will inspire other students to follow their dreams," Ms Adams concluded.
