Impounded pet photos and details to go on-lineA new service featuring details and photographs of impounded pets will become available over the Internet via Latrobe City’s website during the first week of January. By Latrobe City Council - 21st December 2005 - Back to News Latrobe City’s manager local laws, Peter Fraser, said that the new initiative will enable impounded pets to be reunited with their owners more quickly.
"Pet owners sometimes hesitate to call council initially and report their pet missing, in the hope that it may perhaps have gone visiting a friend or a neighbour. With the information on impounded pets now available quickly over the Internet; pet owners should make the Latrobe City website their very first line of enquiry if their pet ever goes missing," Mr Fraser said.
"Details of impounded animals together with a photo taken at the pound will be added to the website, daily. Owners will no longer be required to attend a pound facility in the first instance to identify their pet, as this can all be done over the Internet. This will revolutionise the way we currently assist in reuniting animals with their owners.
"It also allows owners to view the photo gallery outside of office hours, and ensure that their pet is safe, and not roaming the streets or possibly stolen. Arrangements can then be made by appointment to release the pet from the pound," Mr Fraser said.
"The site will also allow the public to view a gallery of impounded animals that may be available for rehousing if they are not claimed within a specific period of time," Mr Fraser explained.
Council’s website address is www.latrobe.vic.gov.au.
To locate the impoundment register on the website, click on ‘Impound register’ on the homepage. Pet owners who do not have their own Internet access can view the impounded pet register at any of Latrobe City’s service centres or libraries during office hours.
