Skating Around Bass Coast

New Skate Park officially opens.

By Portal Admin - 13th October 2019 - Back to News

Bass Coast’s newest Skate Parks have been officially opened, with plenty of fun, food, scooting and skating.

The Parks at the Grantville Recreation Reserve, Harold Hughes Reserve in Corinella and the Cowes Recreation Reserve were celebrated with opening parties during the school holidays, organised by the YMCA and Bass Coast Shire Council.

The Grantville and Corinella Parks were built to replace the portable skate ramp and provide permanent skating facilities for these communities. The $100,000 Grantville project and the $50,000 Corinella project were fully funded by Council.

Bass Coast Shire Mayor, Cr Brett Tessari said it was fantastic for the communities of Corinella and Grantville to have permanent Skate Parks.

"I am sure that both of the parks will be well used and enjoyed for many years to come," Cr Tessari said.

The existing Cowes Skate Park was in poor condition and identified within the Bass Coast Shire Skate Strategy as being in need of an upgrade.

"The $500,000 new Park was completed as part of Council’s renewal program, with the design developed in consultation with the local skate community who provided significant input into its final layout," Cr Tessari said.

"The result is a street style Skate Park that caters for all ages and abilities."

In the coming months, both Grantville Recreation Reserve and Harold Hughes Reserve will have their recreation facilities further upgraded.
