Toilet upgrades on the wayMore accessible park toilets upgrade for the locals and visitors use. By news@gippsland - 13th April 2021 - Back to News Bass Coast Shire Council’s toilet blocks located on the Kilcunda foreshore, at Harold Hughes Reserve in Corinella and at Guide Park in Wonthaggi will be replaced over the coming months. These three projects have a total cost of $1.1 million and are being fully funded by Council’s Building and Open Space Renewal Program.
Park toilets will be upgraded for better and more accessible community use
The existing toilet facilities at Kilcunda and Corinella will be replaced with two unisex toilet cubicles, two unisex ambulant cubicles and one unisex accessible toilet cubicle. At Guide Park, the new toilet facility will include two unisex cubicles, one ambulant cubicle, two accessible cubicles as well as a Changing Places Toilet Facility.
Positive contribution to social health
A Changing Places toilet is fitted with a height-adjustable adult-sized changing table, a track and hoist system and enough space to provide a safe, clean toilet and changing environment for those with additional needs.
Bass Coast Shire Mayor, Cr Brett Tessari, said that this will be the fourth Changing Places Facility located in Bass Coast, with three located on Phillip Island. "The new Changing Places facility in Wonthaggi will be a valuable asset for locals and visitors, who will benefit from the addition of this facility at Guide Park. The upgrade of these three toilet facilities is part of Council’s objective to positively contribute to the social health and well-being of our communities."
Minimising disruptions while upgrading
While construction on the new toilet facilities is underway, temporary toilets will be placed onsite and signage with the nearest accessible toilet locations will be displayed. It is anticipated that work will begin in Corinella in late April and will take about a month to complete. In Kilcunda and Wonthaggi, work is expected to start in early May.
The Kilcunda project will take around one month to complete, while the Wonthaggi facility is expected to be completed by late June. These timeframes may be affected by contractor availability and weather conditions.
Appropriate traffic and pedestrian control measures will be implemented onsite during the works, including some access restrictions. The contractor will make every effort to minimise disruptions while work is underway.
