New Program Unveiled For Latrobe Regional Gallery

The latest Latrobe Regional Gallery program is close to being unleashed, with the promise of the coming six months being jam-packed with exciting exhibitions and intriguing public programs.

Gallery Director, Jacqui Hemsley said that the July to December line up is set to enthral visitors through to the new year; and those who would like a copy of the program are invited to register themselves on the mailing list.

"There are many highlights throughout the program, including the visit of Tibetan monks in July. This very special week-long program ‘Sacred Footsteps from the Roof of the World’ will see the Tibetan monks create a sand mandala. This is a Tibetan Buddhist tradition where intricate images are created with coloured sand which symbolises the transitory nature of things. The monks will also teach meditation techniques in the gallery," Ms Hemsley explained.

"The gallery program will also feature a multimedia exhibition toured through the Australian Centre for the Moving Image, and showcasing a selection of short narrative films from their huge collection. Another highlight will be ‘Tinnie’ by Glen Clarke, winner of the National Sculpture Prize in 2005, who uses traditional techniques of origami to create a life size dinghy. Also featured will be Ivan Durrant, an abstract artist who uses pixilation and overexposure to create large-scale paintings inspired by the football crowd," Ms Hemsley added.

These exhibitions, plus many more, will feature at the LRG until the end of the year. If you would like more information or to be placed on the gallery’s mailing list, please contact the gallery on 5128 5700 or email lrg@latrobe.vic.gov.au.

The Latrobe Regional Gallery is open 7 days, Monday to Friday 10am – 5pm, Saturday and Sunday 11am – 4pm. Admission is free.
