East Gippsland Roads And Bridges Budget Boost

Roads and bridges will receive a funding boost as a result of the East Gippsland Shire Council Plan and Budget.

By East Gippsland Shire Council - 3rd July 2006 - Back to News

CEO Steve Kozlowski said the level of Road and Bridge funding provided in the Capital Improvement Program adopted in the 2006/07 Budget was unprecedented in the Shire’s history.

"A total of $6.3 million will be spent next year and a total of $22.5 million over the next three years," he said.

"This excludes the Tambo Bluff Infrastructure Project that is estimated at $15 million and is subject to final approval of landowners."

Mr Kozlowski said the boost to road and bridge expenditure recognises the need to address the infrastructure issues facing the Shire.

"We have 1800 kilometres of unmade roads that require maintenance and 145 timber bridges that need to be replaced," he said.

"This will be helped by the shire receiving $4.6 million under the Federal Roads to Recovery Program for the next 12 months."

Mayor Cr Jane Rowe that the additional funding provided by the Federal Government has meant that the shire has been able to advance some badly needed capital projects.

"While the recently announced extra $2.3M has yet to be allocated we have identified the key projects in the Budget for 2006/07," she said.

"The result of these works will make an indelible difference to the Shire’s infrastructure", Cr Rowe said.

These works are:

  • Murrindal River Bridge - $515,000
  • Mitta Mitta River Bridge Omeo/Valley Road Benambra - $800,000
  • Back Creek Bridge Swifts Creek - $150,000
  • Calulu Bridge Lindenow - $415,000
  • Bredt Street, Bairnsdale Construction Scheme - $388,000
  • Western Boulevard, Raymond Island Construction Scheme - $60,000
  • Roberts Road Bemm River - $60,000
  • Coates Road Lakes Entrance footpath - $90,000
  • Road Resealing program - $2,155,000
  • Road Black Re-sheet program - $390,000
