Welcome to Latrobe CityNew signs to the entrance to the city. By Portal Admin - 2nd June 2020 - Back to News Latrobe City residents and visitors will soon be greeted with new signs to the entrance to the city, with the ageing signs replaced with redesigned fresher models.
Work on replacing the new signage will start in the coming weeks with "Welcome" and "Goodbye" signs at the western and eastern entrances to Latrobe City. This will be followed by similar town signs for Moe, Newborough, Morwell, Traralgon and Churchill with slightly smaller signs for the seven small towns of Latrobe.
Latrobe City Council Mayor, Cr Dan Clancey, said the new signs represented the current brand of Latrobe City, which provided a more positive message about the municipality.
"The existing signs are decades old and faded with many damaged and in poor condition while others have been removed to accommodate the Princes Highway duplication works between Traralgon and Sale," Cr Clancey said.
"The new signs send a strong message of Latrobe City being a vibrant regional city in Victoria and is a perfect place to live, visit or invest."
The new signs are vertical in shape as opposed to the existing horizontal ones. In red and white, they are simple in design with the words "Welcome" and "Goodbye" also written in the language of the Braiakaulung people of the Gunaikurnai nation.
Cr Clancey said entry signs should capture a sense of arrival and departure but also the identity of the city or town for both residents and tourists alike.
"We want the signs to have a positive impact on those who live here and also those who visit us," he said.
"Importantly they must reflect that we are the premier city in Gippsland, that we welcome new investment and we are open for business. It tells everyone that we are proud of our city and our community."
