Gallery Director, Louise Tegart said that ‘New Energies 2005 – Contemporary Artists of Gippsland’ was an annual touring exhibition organised by Meg Viney, Director, Meeniyan Art Gallery.

"The exhibition includes prints, drawings, painting, sculpture and mixed media. The works on display were selected by Simon Ambrose, Director, McClelland Gallery and Sculpture Park along with prominent local artist Colin Suggett, from a range of applicants.

"The selected artists include Dana Ashlakoff, Travis Hendricks, Janet K. Howard, Karin Ryan, Susan Shingles, Naomy Silvester, Jo Jo Spook and Libby Witchell," Ms Tegart explained.

Ms Tegart said that inspiration for the art works had come from overseas travel, the Gippsland landscape, bushfires, animals and social issues.

"These are themes which explore the artists own environment and are prevalent in this exhibition," Ms Tegart concluded.

‘New Energies 2005 – Contemporary Artists of Gippsland’ continues until Sunday 15 May 2005. The exhibition will then tour West Gippsland Art Centre and East Gippsland Gallery, Bairnsdale.

Latrobe Regional Gallery is located at 138 Commercial Road, Morwell, and is open Monday to Friday 10am-5pm, and on weekends 11am–4pm. The gallery is closed public holidays. For further information about exhibitions at the gallery, please telephone 5128 5700. Admission is free.
