Honouring emergency families

Life Saving Victoria (LSV) is proud to participate in the event, which is an opportunity to acknowledge the contribution of emergency services workers and their families to the Victorian community. It’s also a chance for attendees to access information and resources to support their mental health and wellbeing.

This is the latest family event run by the Emergency Services Foundation (ESF), an organisation which operates to prevent mental health injury among personnel and volunteers in Victoria’s emergency management network.

Families behind service

ESF CEO Siusan MacKenzie said the event aimed to bring emergency services families together from across Victoria. "Behind every emergency service worker in Victoria, whether paid or volunteer, stands a family who carries the weight of that service in quieter ways. They live with the uncertainty of every callout, the long hours, the missed moments, and the unseen toll that the work can take."

"Their strength, patience and understanding make it possible for those we rely on to respond to emergencies to keep showing up. We recognise them not as supporters in the background, but as an essential part of the service itself."

"Their sacrifice, resilience and care do not go unnoticed and this event is a way of saying thank you. The event is also a key opportunity for people to reach out for help if they need it, in a safe and friendly setting," Ms. MacKenzie said.

Emergency family day

Life Saving Victoria CEO Cath Greaves, who is also Deputy Chair of ESF encouraged volunteers and staff to join the event. "Working in emergency services can be incredibly rewarding, but can also be very tough and challenging, so it’s vital that we support our workers and their families in every way we can. This is a terrific initiative to support our volunteers and staff, and Life Saving Victoria is delighted to get behind it," Ms. Greaves said.

The Emergency Services Family Day will run at Gumbuya World, Princes Freeway, Tynong, on Sunday, April 26 from 11am to 4pm. Entry for emergency services staff and volunteers is free, and half price for their family members. To book tickets, go to Gumbuya World website.
