Live4Life participants from across Gippsland got together recently for an exciting day out at Allambee Camp. Youth mental health ambassadors (the Crew) from the Baw Baw, Latrobe, South Gippsland and Wellington Live4Life communities joined forces to celebrate teamwork and self-confidence at the outdoor adventure camp located near Yarragon.

Youth adventure day

It was a day of high adventure with participants making the most of the Camp’s giant swing, flying fox and vertical challenge high ropes course. There was lots of fun to be had on the ground as well, with informal games and billy carts rounding out the day.

Live4Life is a fabulous initiative available to rural and regional communities to support and improve young people’s mental health and wellbeing. The program is designed to increase mental health knowledge among secondary school aged students and their communities, reduce mental health stigma and reduce barriers that might prevent young people from seeking help and support.

Live4Life gathering

Councillor, Paul Pratt, says Baw Baw Shire Council is proud to support the Live4Life initiative and he is pleased to see communities coming together in this way. "A day like this is a great opportunity for Live4Life Crews from across the region to learn from one-another, build new connections and friendships and just have fun."

Participants took the opportunity to learn about the mental health awareness activities and events each community had planned for their area and to share ideas. This is the first time groups from across Gippsland have been brought together in this way and there are plans to run more events in the future, rotating across each of the four participating LGAs.
