New Search Feature For The Gippsland Portal

Keep an eye out for Gippsland's virtual spider...

By Emma Kae - 19th March 2002 - Back to News

The dawning of a new era has arrived at the Gippsland Portal with the brand new search engine. This search facility has been created to better service Gippsland’s online community in finding Gippsland information on the web.

How does it work?

Visitors will visit the Gippsland Portal search page and type their search query or keywords into the textbox on-screen. The engine will then draw appropriate results from the entries it has stored in its index.

We are hoping to make this application the best of its kind in Gippsland. To do so, we will need to have as many pages available for searching as possible. You can submit a website into the search engine by adding the address into our database. Any website that promotes Gippsland or any organisation, location, or activity within Gippsland can be added.

The Gippsland Portal spider will visit the website and read all of the content it has listed. Then, when someone enters a keyword, the search engine results are drawn from the best matches in submitted websites and the business directory.

The more Gippsland-related websites we have in our index, the more accurate the results will be. Would you like to help create connections between our visitors and valuable sites on the web? Click here to submit a website to the Gippsland Portal website.

Put your virtual Mortein down folks, because this is one spider that is set to stay.
