Farmers’ drought relief – new initiatives

Wellington Shire Council reminds local farmers who are receiving Centrelink Exceptional Circumstances (EC) payments that they are now eligible for new drought relief initiatives.

By Wellington Shire Council - 8th August 2005 - Back to News

The State Government has announced a 50 per cent concession on municipal rates to help farming families who are suffering from the effects of the drought.

The concessions are available only while the EC declarations remain in place but the Central and East Gippsland areas will expire on 25 August, 2005.

As a result, these farmers need to pay their municipal rates to Council within 90 days of their last EC payment in order to qualify for the full 50 per cent concession.

For further details about the relief payments, or to obtain an application form, contact the Council on 1300 366 244.
