New Rosedale project stops traffic

There were smiles and cheers all round today (Thursday, October 6) when long-time Rosedale resident Eric Mowat, 91, switched on the new traffic lights in the town.

Successful lobbying by Wellington Shire Council on behalf of the Rosedale community secured essential funding for the much-needed signalised pedestrian crossing in the town.

The Council and the State Government each contributed $67,500 for the crossing and signals on the Princes Highway, about 100 metres west of the Lyons St roundabout, in Rosedale.

Wellington’s Acting Chief Executive Officer Steven Dickson said: "This is a wonderful day for the Rosedale community, who have lobbied long and hard for the crossing.

"The Council stepped in and contributed a large proportion of the funding early on to ensure these works were done as soon as possible and the State Government matched our funding a few months ago."

Mr Dickson says the signalised pedestrian crossing is essential on this busy part of the highway, which carries a lot of heavy traffic through the town.

"It will boost community safety enormously as well as link the commercial parts of the town."

Mr Dickson says some minor landscaping work still needs to be completed at the crossing to finish the project.
