Supporting local sport
Mr O'Brien said, "This is a fantastic outcome for Korumburra Tennis Club and a great recognition of the club's commitment to growing tennis in the region. The new pavilion will not only provide improved facilities for players and members but also create a welcoming community hub that will benefit the entire town."
Mr O'Brien praised the club for its success in securing the funding and acknowledged the important role of South Gippsland Shire Council in supporting the project. "Projects like this don't happen without a lot of hard work behind the scenes and I commend everyone at the club for seeing this through."
Future sports funding
Mr O'Brien encouraged other local clubs and organisations to start thinking ahead to future funding opportunities, with the Local Sports Infrastructure Fund due to open in the coming months. "Applications to the Local Sports Infrastructure Fund can only be made through your local government."
"I strongly encourage any group with a great idea - like Korumburra Tennis Club has shown us - to contact their local council early and get the ball rolling," Mr O'Brien said. More information, as well as an expression of interest form to provide to your local government can be found online at Sport and Recreation Victoria website."
