wonthaggi celebrated
Wonthaggi celebrated in style last weekend, with around 500 people attending the Wonthaggi Heritage Celebrations.
The day started at Soldiers Reserve with dedications, reported Council’s Arts Development Officer, Josephine Kent.
"This was followed by a four part moving rendition of "Jerusalem" and "There’s a Part of My Heart in Wonthaggi" by the Bass Coast Chorale," said Ms Kent.
"Everyone then followed the Wonthaggi Citizens band to Apex Park to continue the celebrations."
This included enjoying the artists in the park, the face painting lady, Professor Silly from Kazooy Island and exploring the artists at work in the Goods Shed or the model trains on the station.
At midday, there was an official opening of the Railway Station Museum.
"After the opening of the Museum, many people took the heritage bus tours," said Ms Kent.
"People went on the Town Heritage or Rail Trail walks and enjoyed refreshments at Mitchell House.
Ms Kent said Council was extremely grateful to the groups who had worked together to organize the event.
"We would like to thank the eight groups involved, particularly the Wonthaggi and District Historical Society and the Bass Coast Artists Society for helping to organize such a wonderful day," said Ms Kent.
"It was great to see so many groups come together for the benefit of the community and to celebrate our heritage."
