Experience Gippsland tourism initiative scoops prestigious award

The "Experience Gippsland" tourism marketing campaign run jointly by Wellington, Baw Baw and Latrobe Councils, has scooped a prestigious award.

By Wellington Shire Council - 1st August 2003 - Back to News

The initiative received a Certificate of Recognition in the category of Destination Promotion from Tourism Minister John Pandazopoulos and Tourism Victoria CEO Lois Appleby at the Country Victoria Tourism Council Regional Tourism Awards held at the Victorian Arts Centre in Melbourne recently.

"Experience Gippsland" was the only award winner in this highly competitive category, beating off stiff competition from such regional Victoria attractions as Ballarat and the Great Ocean Road.

Said Wellington Shire’s Chief Executive Officer Lyndon Webb: "Experience Gippsland is involved in many important promotional opportunities across the region, including the production of a twice yearly official visitor guide and participation at major Victorian and interstate exhibitions."

"This award is a great honour for the three Councils involved, demonstrating the benefits of working together to promote Gippsland as a whole rather than competing or duplicating our efforts. It is also particularly pleasing for the Experience Gippsland marketing team, following as it does on the heels of their scooping an award for Best Destination at the Victorian Caravan and Camping Show in April."

For more information please contact the Council’s Tourism Officer Frank Norden on 5142 3413. He had a major role to play in the Experience Gippsland marketing team achieving the Certificate of Recognition and the Best Destination award.
