, such as wildfire. Mr Ingram met in Bemm River last week and has committed to work with the local community to have the incident management plan implemented.

"The plan has been developed with the assistance of the East Gippsland Shire Council, local police, Country Fire Authority, Department of Sustainability and Environment and Bemm River community members," Mr Ingram said.

"It identifies the real risks in case of emergency at Bemm River and how the community will respond. "I fully endorse this local solution and will work with the community to have the plan implemented."

Mr Ingram said the plan would only work if the State Government supports the plan and facilitates its full implementation, including clearance of the proposed fire break and assembly area. "The Bemm River community is isolated and has been identified by the state and local governments as an at-risk town.

"This has been compounded by the fact that the community and the government have not been able to find a suitable site to create a defined Neighbourhood Safer Place.

"The community has identified what actions they need to undertake to make their community safer and due to their isolation they acknowledge that the only solution is to be self reliant and ensure that adequate protection is provided.

"I have written to Premier John Brumby requesting that the government endorses and

implements the plan and I will be making further representation on this matter during

the final sitting of Parliament this week," Mr Ingram concluded.
