Callignee Community Invited To Design WorkshopLatrobe City Council will host a community design workshop with Callignee residents this coming Tuesday, 5 May, to envisage key aspects of the soon to be rebuilt Callignee Hall. By Latrobe City Council - 5th May 2009 - Back to News Mayor, Cr Lisa Price said that community involvement in the design workshop was critical to fostering ownership of the facility.
"The Callignee Hall was a vital piece of community infrastructure, and in recognising this, we hope that the community will play a central role in its rebuilding.
"Council is now seeking to engage the community around the development of the Architects brief. Through an ongoing partnership, the community will be given an opportunity to shape the look and functionality of the building.
"We encourage all members of the Callignee community to be involved, to attend the meeting and to discuss their thoughts and ideas in moving this project forward.
"Our desire is to gain a greater understanding of the community requirements and work towards ensuring that the community has a facility which reflects their needs," said Cr Price.
Chair of the steering committee and Latrobe City councillor, Cr Ed Vermeulen, said that one of the issues already raised with Council is the re-development of the old hall site into a multipurpose community centre.
"There has been considerable support for the development of a facility which can house a number of community groups including the CFA.
"This is just one of the ideas to be discussed at Tuesday’s meeting," Cr Vermeulen said.
"However, it’s important that the local community understands that the way the facility will be developed is very much in their hands. From the initial concept, identifying purpose, design, naming and how it will work, are all things that the community can steer so that the finished facility meets their expectations and ideals," Cr Vermeulen said.
The community meeting will take place 7pm – 9pm, Traralgon South Community Hall.
