Latrobe City Trust Round Two Applications OpenThe Latrobe City Trust is currently inviting grant applications for round two of funding under the Latrobe City Community Gaming Support Fund for 2010/2011. By Latrobe City - 10th March 2011 - Back to News Under the terms of the Trust, Council provides local gaming venue operators with a general rates waiver of 100% in return for contributing an amount equivalent to 110% of their general rates to the fund.
Latrobe City mayor, Councillor Darrell White, said that it was important for local organisations to be able to respond to the need for gambling support programs.
"We know that there is a substantially high rate of gaming and gambling in our municipality. It is therefore vital that this circle of local entertainment venues and organisations making substantial contributions towards the funding of support programs and services for problem gamblers continues. It is a small but important step in the long process of recovery that local individuals and their families struggling with gambling addiction face.
"We would welcome applications for suitable programs and projects and encourage organisations to submit by close of business on Friday 25 March 2011," Cr White concluded.
Latrobe City’s chief executive officer, Paul Buckley, said that to date, five local gaming venues had entered into ongoing agreements with Council.
"We’ve had the opportunity to work with Yallourn Bowling Club; Morwell Bowling Club; the Italian Australian Club; Moe Racing Club Turfside Tabaret and the Traralgon Bowls Club through the Trust and this financial year, they will collectively contribute almost $30,000 to the Trust Fund.
"In return, the Trust is now looking for programs that demonstrate a substantial benefit to the community especially for those directly and indirectly affected by the associated issues of problem gaming. These could be by way of counselling or diversionary services; or projects where there is a substantial financial commitment from non local government sources," Mr Buckley explained.
Latrobe City Trust chair, Diane Wilkinson, said that funding in round one had been wide-ranging, supporting a number of services and projects.
"The Trust was able to distribute $39,500 within our community. Recipients were Latrobe Community Health Service, as auspice agency of Central West Gippsland Primary Care Partnership, to deliver their Re‑Connecting with our Community project; Warrina Counselling Inc to run counselling sessions for problem gamblers and for the provision of welfare assistance for centre clients being counselled for gambling related issues.
"Additionally, the Combined Rotary Clubs of Traralgon Central and Hazelwood received funding for the 2011 ‘Go Youth’ Camp for Disadvantaged Children," Ms Wilkinson said.
"We hope to be able to fund similar programs once round two applications have been processed," Ms Wilkinson concluded.
Round two applications for the Latrobe City Trust community gaming support fund will be received until 5pm on Friday 25 March. For more information please contact Rosie Berry at Latrobe City on 1300 367 700 or email Rosie.Berry@latrobe.vic.gov.au
