Maffra Recreation Reserves Scoop $10,000 Grant

Wellington Shire Council and Craig Ingram MP, Member for Gippsland East are pleased to announce a $10,000 Victorian Government grant to create a master plan for strategic planning and maintenance of Maffra’s recreation reserves.

By Wellington Shire Council - 24th June 2005 - Back to News

The welcome grant was announced in Maffra today as part of the Victorian Government’s four-year, $34 million Community Facilities Funding Program – which offers grants for projects providing high-quality and accessible community sport and recreation facilities.

This plan will provide an overall framework for the long-term planning and maintenance of the reserve’s public facilities. The committee will use the grant to engage a consultant to draw-up the council and management committee’s vision for the future of the reserves and create development plans to meet this.

Hundreds of people are set to benefit from this welcome financial injection with the reserves’ user groups including:

· Maffra Football Club

· Maffra Agricultural Society

· Sale/Maffra & District Kennel Club

· Maffra Poultry Club

· McMillan Rockhounds

· Maffra Municipal Band

· Maffra Young Farmers

· Maffra Basketball Association

· Maffra Gymnastics Club,

· Maffra Junior Football Club

· Maffra Cricket Club

· Maffra Hockey Club

· Maffra/Sale Motorcycle Club.

Said Wellington’s Mayor Peter Gault: "The council is extremely pleased to have assisted the Maffra community in securing this funding to improve two of its most well-used assets. The Maffra recreation reserves collectively serve 13 different sport and recreation groups, which stand to benefit a huge percentage of Maffra’s community.

"We welcome this funding from the Victorian Government’s Community Facilities Funding Program and also recognise the hard work put in by the Maffra Recreation

Reserve Committee on behalf of all the local community and sports groups who use the facilities.

"The council urges all community sporting associations and groups who have projects they wish to undertake, to put their plans on paper and apply for Victorian Government grants. Wellington is eligible to put forward funding requests for three projects per year under this program and has a Community Development Unit committed to assisting these groups with their applications."
