Construction of the Echo Valley culvert at Dalyston Glen Forbes Road has been completed. The road is now open to traffic. There will be ongoing minor work in the area, including sealing of the road. It is expected the road will be sealed in the next week, as part of Council’s roads maintenance program.
VIETNAM VETERANS PRESENTATION
The Vietnam Veterans Association presented a plaque to the Bass Coast Shire Council in commemoration of the Battle of Long Tan.
Bass Coast Mayor, Cr Neville Goodwin said the plaque recognized the support the Shire has given the Veterans over the years.
"Council has a very strong working relationship with the Vietnam Veterans," said Cr Goodwin.
"Council worked in partnership with them to help secure State and Federal funding to help them complete the Museum.
"In light of this, we have decided that the plaque will be displayed in the garden at the new Museum," continued Cr Goodwin.
"The plaque will be set in a rock, which will be part of the garden landscape."
INTERNATIONAL VOLUNTEER DAY
Bass Coast Shire celebrated International Volunteer Day this week.
Held on 5 December each year, the day is designated as an opportunity to recognise and celebrate volunteer involvement in the community.
Bass Coast Shire Mayor, Cr Neville Goodwin said there were over 100 volunteers at Council that worked to support the community each year.
"Without the dedication of our volunteer staff, we wouldn’t be able to operate our community transport service, frail aged and disabled planned activity groups, Visitor Information Centres or the Walking School Bus Program.
"They make an invaluable contribution to this Shire," said Cr Goodwin.
Council held a series of celebrations for its volunteers, such as lunches, morning teas and certificate presentations, to thank the volunteers.

CFA AWARD FOR DAMIEN C'CONNOR
Bass Coast CFA volunteer, Damien O’Connor has received the Bob Burgess Award for his outstanding work with the CFA.
Bass Coast Mayor, Cr Neville Goodwin said the Award was a prestigious one.
"The Bob Burgess Award is presented each year to an exceptional leader within our CFA Region.
"There are over 2,500 volunteers within the Region, so it is quite an achievement to be presented with this award," said Cr Goodwin.
"On behalf of Council and the community, I’d like to thank Damien for all his hard work.
"He has made an incredible contribution and we congratulate him on this Award," Cr Goodwin continued.
MAYORAL ELECTIONS – 6 DECEMBER
At the Statutory Council Meeting held on 6 December, Cr Neville Goodwin was re-elected unopposed as Mayor of Bass Coast Shire Council.
This will be Cr Goodwin’s third consecutive term as Mayor. It is the first time in the history of the Bass Coast Shire that a Mayor has served three consecutive terms.
Deputy Mayor, Cr John Duscher was also re-elected unopposed.
RURAL CHRISTMAS MARKETS IN THE CITY
Every year Information Victoria presents a unique Rural Christmas Market to support small rural businesses and country cottage industries. The wide range of hand-crafted products comes from across the State.
A variety of regional food can be found at this market - jams, preserves, fudges, olive products, Christmas puddings and food hampers. The market also features wood crafts, sheepskin and woollen products, hand-made glass work, emu oil products, a large range of lavender products, hemp products, soaps and natural skin care, paintings and Aboriginal artwork.
The Market is held at Information Victoria, 356 Collins Street, Melbourne. It runs from Monday 4 December until Friday 22 December (excluding weekends) and is open from 8.30am – 5pm.
Visitors to the Market can also enter the draw to win a Rural Christmas Hamper, valued at over $250.
