VIETNAM VETERANS PRESENTATION

The Vietnam Veterans Association presented a plaque to the Bass Coast Shire Council in commemoration of the Battle of Long Tan.

Bass Coast Mayor, Cr Neville Goodwin said the plaque recognized the support the Shire has given the Veterans over the years.

"Council has a very strong working relationship with the Vietnam Veterans," said Cr Goodwin.

"Council worked in partnership with them to help secure State and Federal funding to help them complete the Museum.

"In light of this, we have decided that the plaque will be displayed in the garden at the new Museum," continued Cr Goodwin.

"The plaque will be set in a rock, which will be part of the garden landscape."

INTERNATIONAL VOLUNTEER DAY

Bass Coast Shire celebrated International Volunteer Day this week.

Held on 5 December each year, the day is designated as an opportunity to recognise and celebrate volunteer involvement in the community.

Bass Coast Shire Mayor, Cr Neville Goodwin said there were over 100 volunteers at Council that worked to support the community each year.

"Without the dedication of our volunteer staff, we wouldn’t be able to operate our community transport service, frail aged and disabled planned activity groups, Visitor Information Centres or the Walking School Bus Program.

"They make an invaluable contribution to this Shire," said Cr Goodwin.

Council held a series of celebrations for its volunteers, such as lunches, morning teas and certificate presentations, to thank the volunteers.

"There are over 2,500 volunteers within the Region, so it is quite an achievement to be presented with this award," said Cr Goodwin.

"On behalf of Council and the community, I’d like to thank Damien for all his hard work.

"He has made an incredible contribution and we congratulate him on this Award," Cr Goodwin continued.
