Plastic Bag Free Push For InverlochA group of passionate Inverloch residents is trying to raise awareness and promote the concept of a plastic bag free Inverloch. By Bass Coast Shire Council - 30th March 2009 - Back to News Bass Coast Shire Council’s Community Planning Facilitator, Tracy VanderZalm, said the group held a sewing bee to make bags which would be donated to local businesses and shoppers to gauge interest in the project.
"The residents are part of the Inverloch Community Planning Project’s ‘Eco-Friendly’ focus group," said Mrs VanderZalm.
"Their initial goal is to sew 100 bags which will help them gauge interest in their project and spread the message that caring for the environment doesn’t need to be expensive.
"All of the material to make the bags was donated," explained Mrs VanderZalm.
This focus group is one of six that has been established as part of the Inverloch Community Planning Project.
"Council secured state government funding to support six communities in developing their community plans," said Mrs VanderZalm.
"We have been very impressed with how far the project has come along in three months. This is in a large part due to the enthusiasm and interest of the Inverloch community.
"There are six focus groups made up of local residents interested in planning, providing for and promoting the wellbeing of Inverloch."
The projects identified include improving shared pathways, working on the plan to improve the Inverloch Foreshore Reserve, improving town entrances, investigating the development of a soundshell and lending support to the building of the Inverloch Surf Life Saving Club.
"Community planning is all about community participation and interested residents are always welcome to join the project at any stage," said Mrs VanderZalm.
If there is a focus group that interests you and you think you have some good ideas to share, contact Community Planning Facilitator, Tracy VanderZalm on 1300 BCOAST (226 278).
The next meeting of the Inverloch Community Planning Group will be held on Thursday 23 April from 7pm at the Anglican Church Hall.
