Regional Cities Victoria Funding Commitment Welcomed

Latrobe City Council Has Welcomed The Victorian Government’S Announcement That It Would Commit To A $100 Million Funding Package As Part Of The Regional Growth Fund For The Regional Cities Infrastructure Program.

By Latrobe City - 19th November 2014 - Back to News

Latrobe City Council’s mayor, Councillor Dale Harriman, said that the funding would allow Victoria’s regional centres to continue to grow.

"This pledge to continue funding the future growth of Victoria’s regional cities provides local councils with an opportunity to plan for projects and initiatives that they may otherwise struggle to fund. Knowing that the Regional Growth Fund will be topped up will allow many councils across Victoria to aspire to the great things their communities desire.

"For Latrobe City Council, this potential fund means that we have options when it comes to funding. We will have choice and flexibility when it comes to deciding on major projects or the delivery of new infrastructure or upgrading current infrastructure," Cr Harriman said.

"Regional cities in Victoria have so much to offer. With the population in areas such as Latrobe City projected to continue to rise, there is always a need to keep up in terms of buildings and services within the community. The Regional Cities Infrastructure Program is a gateway to the provision of these projects.

"We welcome this commitment from the Napthine government. Investing in the future of regional Victoria will pay huge dividends to the economy, social wellbeing and connectedness into the future," Cr Harriman concluded.
