Regional Fuel Price Public Hearing’s commence
Public hearing’s being held by the State Parliaments Economic, Education, Jobs and Skills Committee in relation to Fuel Price discrepancies in Regional Victoria were held in Melbourne yesterday.
Mr Northe who instigated the terms of reference for the enquiry expressed disappointment on the relatively low number of submissions received by the committee and the lack of regional hearings."The simple fact of why I believe this enquiry is important was that local motorists continually felt they were being ripped off at the bowser" said Mr Northe.
"It defies logic that towns to the east and west of Latrobe Valley can have significantly lower fuel prices but that is what has been happening" said Mr Northe
Hopefully the inquiries will ultimately determine why these price discrepancies are occurring and offer solutions to the problem.
"High petrol prices have been an issue in the Latrobe Valley for many years but despite continued calls for action nothing has changed." Mr Northe said.
"I have also been calling on the ACCC to undertake an investigation into petrol price discrepancies particularly for the Latrobe Valley residents and businesses’ for some time," Mr Northe said.
"The ACCC have advised that they are aware of the consumer concerns about pricing anomalies where fuel retailers in some locations do not seem to have passed through the lower process," Mr Northe said.
Mr Northe is calling upon the committee to ensure they are engaged with Latrobe Valley motorists and businesses to learn of local concern relating to fuel prices.
