Gippsland Employment Skills Training (Gest) Finalist in 2019 Learn Local Awards

Gippsland Employment Skills Training (GEST) gets nomination for Victorian Learn Local Awards.

Gippsland Employment Skills Training (GEST) in Moe has been nominated for their work transforming lives through community education at this year’s Victorian Learn Local Awards.

Jack Vickery from GEST is also is among six individual finalists from across Victoria who have been nominated for their achievements in establishing pathways for themselves into further education, employment or volunteer roles.

Member for Eastern Victoria Region, Harriet Shing, today congratulated Jack Vickery and GEST who are nominated for the awards at the Learn Local Awards on Friday 23 August at the Mural Hall, Melbourne.

GEST has been nominated for the Victorian Learn Local Creating Local Solutions Award which recognises the achievements of a Learn Local program or project that is creating solutions to local training needs.

Mr Vickery has been nominated for the Victorian Learn Local Young Pre-accredited Learner Award which recognises the achievements of local people, aged between 18 – 24 years, participating in pre-accredited programs at a Learn Local provider.

The full list of awards are:

  • The Ro Allen Award - Recognising Pre-accredited Learner Excellence
  • Victorian Learn Local Young Pre-accredited Learner Award
  • Victorian Learn Local Practitioner Award
  • Victorian Learn Local Volunteer Team Award
  • Victorian Learn Local Pre-accredited Pathway Program Award
  • Victorian Learn Local Creating Local Solutions Award
  • Victorian Learn Local Collaboration Award

Award winners have the chance to share in $72,000 in prizemoney. The three organisation award category winners will each receive $10,000, while individual category winners will be awarded $5,000, and category finalists will receive $1,000. In addition, the Learn Local Legend Acknowledgement Award will be presented to eight organisations that will each receive $1,000.

Learn Local providers make a huge difference in their communities by delivering adult community education programs. They help people who need extra support to turn their lives around with programs for people of all ages and from all walks of life.
