Multicultural Festivals And Events Funding Now Open

State Member for Gippsland Province PETER HALL is encouraging Gippsland multicultural groups to apply for the Multicultural Festivals and Events Funding Program 2004-05.

Mr Hall said the funding would provide grants of up to $10 000 for major festivals, $5000 for a conference and $2500 for special ethnic community events.

"The funding aims to encourage the participation of the whole community in celebrating and valuing cultural diversity," Mr Hall said.

"It also aims to promote awareness of cultural diversity, community contributions, mutual respect and understanding."

Mr Hall said organisations applying for funding must:

• be non-profit and non-political;
• Either be incorporated under the Australian Corporation Act or as an Association under the Association Incorporation Act;
• Have an Australian Business Number (ABN);
• Take out public liability insurance to cover loss or injury occurring to any person at the festival or event;
• Hold the festival or event in a building or premises with an appropriate Town Planning permit for such use and which is fit for the requirements of the program or event and meets building and fire safety codes; and
• Comply with Occupational Health and Safety codes.

"Priority will be given to events that are held during Cultural Diversity Week from March 17 to 23, 2005," Mr Hall said.

"I believe our multicultural community groups would benefit greatly from this funding and encourage them to apply."
