On Wednesday 14 April Wellington Shire Council will be hosting a community consultation evening to update local residents and businesses on the coming transfer the Officer Training School at Point Cook to RAAF East Sale.

Organised by Gippsland’s Federal Member Peter McGauran, this information evening will be led by Colonel Darren Naumann, Director Project Development with the Department for Defence, Corporate services & Infrastructure. It will cover such aspects as the scope of the project, opportunities for local industry to be involved and the potential benefits of the initiative to the local economy.

All are welcome to attend the event which is being held in the Wellington Room, Port of Sale Civic Centre, 70 Foster Street, on 14 April, from 7.00pm to 8.00pm. There will be the opportunity to ask questions following a presentation and briefing. Simply turn up on the evening.

Said Wellington’s new Mayor Jeff Amos: "We’re grateful to our Federal Member Peter McGauran for arranging this very important meeting. It follows a commitment given back in November when Wellington’s then Mayor and our Chief Executive Officer met with senior RAAF personnel in the office of the Minister for Defence.

"This council has been lobbying hard for the fulfilment of the promise to relocate the Officer Training School to RAAF East Sale and this marks the first major step towards that realisation. The meeting will be a great opportunity for local residents and businesses to get an up-to-date, clear indication of how well the transfer of the Officer Training School is progressing, including the start date for construction work, as well as to appreciate the long term benefits to our economy."

RAAF East Sale already brings substantial economic benefit to Wellington Shire and Gippsland, representing around $20 million a year. The announced transfer of the Officer Training School will help further enhance the prosperity of the region long into the future.

This transfer builds on notable ongoing success stories such as the expansion of Sam Gould and Dahlsens in Sale, the Council’s multi-million-dollar Port of Sale and entertainment centre developments, and East Gippsland Institute of TAFE’s potential relocation from Fulham to Sale.
