$1.5 Million Upgrade For Princes Highway Intersections

The Member for Gippsland East, Craig Ingram, today welcomed confirmation that $1 million will be spent on upgrading the Princes Highway intersections at Hadfield and McEacharn Streets in Bairnsdale.

Mr Ingram was advised of the funding this week by the Minister for Roads and Ports, Tim Pallas. This follows a site inspection of the intersection that Mr Ingram arranged with VicRoads late last year.

"The intersections at East Bairnsdale have been of concern for many years and local residents are most aware that I have been actively advocating for funding to find a solution," Mr Ingram said.

"I am advised by VicRoads that works will be undertaken to convert the ‘Y-type’ intersection to a ‘T-shaped’ intersection and include improved lighting, installation of a traffic island and road widening on Hadfield Street costing $500,000," Mr Ingram said.

"This will provide better and safer access to and from Hadfield Street by improving visibility and slowing vehicle speeds.

An additional $500,000 will be spent to construct a left turning lane on both roads, improve lighting and widen McEacharn Street, including the installation of a traffic island.

"This will improve visibility and access to the Princes Highway particularly at peak times."

Mr Ingram said a further $500,000 will also be spent on upgrading the intersection of Dargo Road and Princes Highway west of Bairnsdale.

"I welcome the allocation of $1.5 million for these projects and will continue to advocate for funding to fix other dangerous intersections within my electorate," Mr Ingram concluded.

The funding is being provided through the State Government’s Greyspot Program.
