Latrobe City Mayor, Councillor Darrell White, presented certificates of appreciation to representatives of the many groups who have already undertaken revegetation and native vegetation protection works in the municipality. "Landcare groups, local schools, reserve committees, friends groups, Apex, Lions and Rotary clubs have all been involved in planting and protecting native vegetation for the benefit of us all," Cr White said. "This has been hands-on work not merely acknowledging the need for a better environment, but getting hands dirty and undertaking it for the benefit of the whole community. I am delighted that Council is able to recognise their efforts in some small way by awarding certificates of appreciation. Their commitment to the environment is commendable," Cr White said. After the presentations, Sustainability and Environment Strategy Officer, Fiona Fullard, introduced ‘Greening Latrobe’ as a "The Greening Latrobe program aims to facilitate and encourage community groups to participate in further vegetation restoration," Ms Fullard explained. As a result, the steering committee was formed," Ms Fullard added.
