Tourism Board Appointees Sought

East Gippsland Shire Council has begun advertising for two representatives to join the Shire’s Tourism Advisory Board that is to be formed as part of its Tourism Policy.

Acting Economic Development Manager Brett Lynn said Council was keen to obtain expressions of interest from people with broad business experience.

"People who have had experience with tourism in East Gippsland would be of particular interest," he said.

"It is an excellent opportunity for those at ‘the coalface’ to have an input."

The two appointees will join members nominated from Parks Victoria, Department of Environment and Sustainability, the regional Campaign Committee, the -Business and Tourism Association Peak Body and Councillors, Mayor Jane Rowe and Michael Freshwater.

Mr Lynn said the Advisory Board will act as a consultative mechanism for Council and the community and provide recommendations on the best way for Council to approach Tourism within East Gippsland.

"It will also encourage groups involved in the tourism industry to work cooperatively and collaboratively and provide recommendations to Council on matters that fall within the Board's Terms of Reference.

"As well, the Advisory Board will oversee the development of an integrated long-term tourism strategy and yearly action plans that take into consideration the responsibilities of the key stakeholders in the region," he said.

Application forms can be obtains from Shire offices and will be accepted until 7 March.
