New Stadium To Play Host To Third Volleyball Test

The first high profile event to take place at the new extended stadium at Latrobe leisure Moe Newborough will see the Australian junior women’s volleyball team go head to head with the New Zealand on Tuesday 29 September 2009.

By Latrobe City Council - 11th September 2009 - Back to News

Latrobe City mayor, Cr Lisa Price said the event will be a fantastic opportunity for the entire community to join the crowd and witness some first class volleyball action, and experience the exciting new stadium.

"This event will allow the public to see some of the world’s best women’s volleyballers in Moe and will be a great opportunity for residents to come and cheer on the Aussies as they attempt to bring the Jenny Kirk trophy back to Australia," Cr Price said.

The Jenny Kirk Tasman Trophy series is a five game tournament, with Moe playing host to the third game of the series.

The match will see some of Australia and New Zealand’s best volleyball players take the court, in the cross Tasman clash.

The event is proudly supported by Latrobe Valley Volleyball, Latrobe City Council and TRU energy.

Local volleyballers will be in for a treat, with Gippsland’s own, Eliza Smith, from Lakes Entrance taking the court.

The third test in a five match series will see Australia fight to claim back the trophy from New Zealand.

The annual series will see old rivalries reunited, with the cross Tasman battle sure to ignite patriotism from both countries.

Both countries’ teams are in training, preparing to play in the 2010 Asian Junior Championships, ensuring the girls will be fired up and ready for action on court.

Members of the Gippsland Sports Academy volleyball squad will be treated to a clinic held by the teams, who will also undergo training sessions on the day.

The Gippsland Sports Academy notes Eliza Smith as a graduate, and will welcome her back to offer advice to current players.

The test match will begin at 6pm with an official warm up, with the first serve commencing at 6.30pm.

This is an event for all ages, and a chance to come and cheer on the Aussies, as they fight to bring the Jenny Kirk trophy back to Australian soil.

Tickets can be ordered from Latrobe Valley Volleyball at latrobe.valley.volleyball@gmail.com or brought at the stadium door.

Prices are: Adult $5, Students $3, Family $12, Children under 5 free.
