By East Gippsland Shire Council - 3rd December 2004 - Back to News

It is Cr Rowe’s first term as Mayor, and follows a twelve month period in which she has been deputy Mayor

In today’s ballot Crs David Eagleson and Gil Sheppard nominated Crs

Rowe and former Mayor Cr Harvey Bates respectively.

Council then voted and the result was tied with four votes for each nomination.

Ten numbered marbles were then placed in a barrel and the first to roll out – an odd number – was credited to Cr Rowe, as she was the first nomination. The second number to roll out, also ‘odd’ was also credited to her guaranteeing her win.

Cr Rowe moved to East Gippsland 13 years ago and has been actively involved in the community ever since, including SES Controller and St Mary's Primary School Board secretary.

Elected Deputy Mayor in March 2004, she was instrumental in the adoption of the Shire's Tourism Policy, is a member of Council's Audit Committee and represents Council on the Economics and Finance Advisory Group and Strategic Environment Advisory Group of the Municipal Association of Victoria.

She is committed to responsible environmental care and is passionate about community driven consultation.
