Community Invited To Traralgon Water Treatment Plant Open Day

The Traralgon Water Treatment Plant will be open to the public next weekend following a $5.51 million dollar upgrade.

By Gippsland Water - 19th October 2007 - Back to News

The community open day, to be held on Saturday, 27 October from 11am to 3pm, seeks to celebrate both this upgrade and National Water Week which will run from October 21 to 28. The open day will feature a free sausage sizzle and fairy floss and children can even test their jumping skills in the Finding Nemo jumping castle.

Members of the community will have the opportunity to tour the filtration and laboratory sections of the treatment plant, which treats 270 litres of water a second, or 23 megalitres of water a day.

The Traralgon Water Treatment Plant contained four pairs of cells and four filters and was upgraded in 1995 by installing primary filters in two of the cells.

The upgrade included conversion of the filtration system, building a roof over the filters to protect the water from wind, vermin, birds and other contaminants, and building two storage basins, one with a 12 megalitre capacity and another that can hold one megalitre.

The total cost of these projects for Traralgon’s water system were $5.51 million.

Gippsland Water’s community open day offers a chance to learn more about how water is made safe to drink, and have some fun with family and friends. A number of Gippsland Water staff will be in attendance to answer your questions.

The Traralgon Water Treatment Plant is located on the corner of Cross’s Road and Ashworth Drive in Traralgon. For more information on the community open day, contact Gippsland Water on 1800 066 401.
