Council’s Small Business Development Officer, Margaret Murray, says the aim of the Awards is to showcase the important contribution that businesses make to the local economy and the community in general.

"The Awards will incorporate the ‘Golden Plate Award’ which has been run by Council for the past three years," said Ms Murray.

The 2006 Bass Coast Shire Business Awards have been divided into two sections:

Section 1: In this section the general public are invited to vote for:

1. Favourite Eatery

2. Best Customer Friendly Person

3. Best Coffee Maker

4. Best Window Display/Shop Presentation

5. Best Business Website

Section 2: In this section businesses can nominate themselves, or be nominated by the public. This category will be judged by a professional with expertise in the area.

1. Business of the Year

2. Best "Access for All’ Business

3. Best ‘Waste Wise’ Business

"It is encouraged that in Section 2 categories, material be included that will support the nomination where possible," explained Ms Murray.
