Creative Spaces Throughout MayCreativity explodes across Bass Coast in May during the Creative Gippsland Arts Festival. Events from Inverloch in the east to Phillip Island and Corinella in the west, will showcase a fantastic array of local talent. By Bass Coast - 23rd April 2013 - Back to News Bass Coast Mayor, Cr Clare Le Serve, said the variety of events on offer was breathtaking.
"Next month, we will all be able to enjoy exhibitions, open studios, singing and performing," said Cr Le Serve.
"Not only is this a treat for local residents, it will entice a lot of visitors to the region."
The theme for this year’s festival is Space and for the first time, residents can get hands-on by entering the decorated gate competition. With a $500 first prize on offer, organisers are hoping locals will take up the challenge.
"Get creative and decorate your gate, then load a photo up onto the festival website," encouraged Cr Le Serve.
"The public will be voting for their favourite gates. As well as the overall winner, there are prizes of $150 being awarded in several different categories."

Official Festival opening – Saturday, 4 May
The Festival will be officially opened at the Goat Island Gallery between Wonthaggi and Inverloch on Saturday, 4 May from 2.00 to 4.00pm.
Visitors at the opening will be able to see three gates commissioned for Gatescape, the feature event for Creative Gippsland 2013.
Artists Bob Hickman, John Carlson and Andrew Kasper have been working on the gates for the opening. On Sunday the gates will then move to their display locations at The Blue Pig Gallery in Wonthaggi, Phillip Island Winery and La Provincia restaurant and vineyard at Corinella.
As well as the opening, there are some diverse events on offer during the first weekend of the Festival.
In addition to the always enjoyable art galleries to visit, there are some more unusual events. Why not whet your palate with "How to be a Wine Judge in Five Minutes" at the Wonthaggi Art Space on Friday, 3 May from 5.00 to 7.00pm. Or stretch your lungs at the Vocal Nosh at Mitchell House, where group singing will be followed by a shared meal.
For something unusual, visit the fence in South Dudley where Tom Murray White has created an installation from discarded tin lids. ‘The Fence’ is a growing artwork of about 80 engraved tin lids, portraying a vast range of images, from the wildly imaginative to the everyday.
With twenty events on offer across the region, the Creative Gipppsland Arts Festival will finish with a bus trip to Open Studios on Sunday, 26 May. Visit artists’ studios in Bass Coast and neighboring South Gippsland Koonwarra Art Trail.
