New Business Program To Support Growth Small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) in the Latrobe Valley with plans to expand are able to receive specialised support and advice, following new funding from the Victorian Coalition Government. By Russell Northe - 23rd April 2013 - Back to News Member for Morwell Russell Northe announced that Latrobe City Council had received funding for an Accelerated Business Growth Program and Small and Medium Enterprise Support Program.
The programs are part of the Victorian Coalition Government’s Latrobe Valley Industry and Employment Roadmap, which is funded through the $15 million Latrobe Valley Industry and Infrastructure Fund.
Mr Northe said, "This is part of a long-term plan to generate growth in Latrobe Valley and diversify the industry base.
"The Roadmap has been developed to target regional investment and make sure local governments, businesses and communities are working together toward a common goal."
Mr Northe said the Roadmap focussed on ways to create employment and stimulate new investment.
"The Accelerated Business Growth Program targets high performing businesses and investigates expansion opportunities and ways they could generate new employment," Mr Northe said.
"It will look at linking supply chains across the region and developing an advanced manufacturing sector that supplies businesses right across Australia.
"The Small and Medium Enterprises Support Program (SMEs) will provide businesses with advice about accessing government funding to help them expand.
"Funding will also be available to assist in the development of marketing and business plans, if identified by council as a priority for the business."
Mr Northe said small business was the backbone of the local economy and it was important they were encouraged to look at future growth opportunities and creating more jobs for the community.
This program will provide small businesses with a great start for growth and expansion.
