Easter Bunny visits Latrobe City

The Easter Bunny has been seen out and about in Latrobe City bringing a smile to the faces of children and adults alike.

The Easter Bunny has been seen out and about in Latrobe City bringing a smile to the faces of children and adults alike.

Latrobe City’s Meals on Wheels volunteers made a special delivery to the Meals on Wheels recipients throughout the municipality.

Latrobe City’s Volunteer Training and Events Officer, Wendy Hansen, said that in addition to their usual tasty, hot meal each person received a hot cross bun courtesy of Baker’s Delight.

"In keeping with the spirit of the occasion, a number of the volunteers wore Bunny Ears whilst doing their rounds and brought a smile to the faces of the special people who receive this invaluable service," Ms Hansen said.

"And not to overlook the generosity of the volunteers, the Easter Bunny also made them a special delivery – in the form of an Easter Egg each," Ms Hansen added.

Latrobe City school crossing attendant, Carol Salerno, lifted the spirits of school children in Shakespeare Street, Traralgon on break-up day last week by handing out chocolate eggs, also donning the ubiquitous Bunny Ears.

"They may have been smiling anyway, because of the impending school holidays, but the combination of chocolate and silly ears broadened their grins even more," Ms Salerno said.

Latrobe City’s Mayor, Councillor Graeme Middlemiss, said that whilst Easter was a time of celebration and fun, it was timely to remind people about taking care out and about on the roads over the holiday period.

"We cannot reiterate enough the message to slow down on the roads, and to take regular breaks if doing a long drive over Easter.

"But just as important to remember, is that with children on school holidays, they are likely to be outside playing. This means that drivers should take extra care, particularly in residential areas. Stick to the 50kph speed limit on such roads and watch out for children playing, cycling or skateboarding. Children can be unpredictable, so expect the unexpected," Cr Middlemiss said.
