Architect announced for Latrobe Creative PrecinctLCAP architects announced By Portal Admin - 18th December 2017 - Back to News A joint tender by Jackson Architecture and Katsieris Origami Architecture, in association, has been selected to carry out the vision for the new Latrobe Creative Precinct.
Latrobe City Council mayor, Councillor Darrell White said the architects were appointed following a robust tender and evaluation process.
"We are very excited to have two architects of this calibre on board for the Latrobe Creative Precinct project," Cr White said.
"The Latrobe City community will be the big winners with having this team on board, thanks to their breadth of experience in similar projects, and for the vision they have for developing this new community facility.
"We are particularly excited by the winning design team’s understanding of the project and the needs of our community. They are known for their client-focused design process and their commitment to consultation and engagement.
"Latrobe City Council is now looking forward to participating in the design process and developing a wonderful precinct for the Latrobe community, and the greater Gippsland region. Site works are expected to commence in late-2018."
Latrobe Creative Precinct Project Reference Group member Simon Hemming said the current Latrobe Performing Arts Centre was outdated and too small.
"The community has grown to a point where the current theatre is not large enough to support major productions and gatherings," Mr Hemming said.
"A new theatre will increase choices in touring shows, including ensuring there are more shows."
Nine tenders were received for the $30 million project, which is jointly funded by Latrobe City Council and the state and federal governments.
The new precinct will include a 750-seat theatre, a studio theatre, multipurpose rooms, café and outdoor event spaces. In addition, the current Latrobe Performing Arts Centre will be refurbished into a Creative Industries Training Centre.
