Planning Scheme Changes Approved

The Victorian Government has approved changes to the Bass Coast Planning Scheme and Local Planning Policy Framework.

By Bass Coast Shire Council - 11th September 2009 - Back to News

The Minister for Planning, Justin Madden, approved the changes (through Amendment C85), praising the work done on the review.

Planning and Environment Director, Hannah Duncan-Jones, said she was thrilled that the approval had gone through.

"This Amendment represents a significant step forward in making sure the aspirations of our community are used to guide land use planning decisions," said Ms Duncan-Jones.

The Minister’s letter congratulated Council on the comprehensive approach to the work on the Amendment.

"It’s rewarding to get this recognition for the work that was done and the strengths and skills of our staff," Ms Duncan-Jones said.

"I would personally like to acknowledge the work of our Strategic Planning Team; Martin Gill, Sharna Cole, Fiona Simonds, Stacey Skilton and of course former team member Lisa Dunlop.

"They were greatly assisted by our Statutory Planning Team and the invaluable input from Councillors and our community."

Ms Ducan-Jones said that the community, Councillors and staff had ownership of the Municipal Strategic Statement and Policy Framework.

"This is a first for Bass Coast and I thank everyone who contributed to the project," Ms Duncan-Jones continued.

"It will be very exciting to work together to create the future that is articulated in these important documents."

Background

Amendment C85 introduces the new Local Planning Policy Framework into the Planning Scheme. The amendment replaces the existing Local Planning Policy Framework (LPPF), including Council’s Municipal Strategic Statement (MSS) with a new version.

The Local Planning Policy Framework deals with big picture issues and the future of Bass Coast.

The new LPPF provides a clear hierarchy for towns and growth management across the Shire, providing a clear priority order for the future size and role of each town.

There are updated and new strategies about landscapes, coastal areas, vegetation and climate change.
